Includes 35,000 acres of mixed pine andhardwood forest, bottomland hardwoods, creeks, streams, and managed ponds.- The refuge is home to 39 active active colonies of endangered red-cockadedwoodpeckers (RCW's). - Piedmont provides habitat for wood ducks, migratory waterfowl, wading birds, songbirds, wild turkeys, and white-tailed deer.
