McCorkle Music Building's Neva Langley Fickling Hall at Mercer University has been chosen as the location for a Senior Piano Recital performed by Mary Claire Murphy, an award-winning young pianist of Macon, Georgia. The event will occur at 4:00pm on Sunday, May 18th and all are welcome.
Mary Claire is a high school senior at Mary Persons High School in Forsyth, GA and has been classically trained in piano for 11 years. Susan McDuffie of Macon, GA has instructed Mary Claire for the past 7 years. Mrs. McDuffie has guided some talented musicians to great achievements, not the least of which is her son and world renowned violinist, Robert “Bobby” McDuffie, and her daughter and concert pianist, Margery McDuffie Whatley.
Some of Mary Claire’s achievements include:
• Winner of the 2006 Macon Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition
o As the winner of this competition, Mary Claire played the first movement of the Haydn Concerto in D Major, Hob XVIII, No. 11 with the Macon Symphony Orchestra in a special performance.
• Gordon College Academic Competition
o Piano 1st Place 2006 & 2005

• GMTA Outstanding Performer 2007 & Competitor for past 3 years

Mary Claire has auditioned for numerous college music scholarships and has decided to attend Belmont University beginning in August 2008 as a Piano Performance major.
The proud grandparents of Mary Claire Murphy are Tom & Sonia Murphy of Blairsville and Kennis & Pat Tucker of Macon. Mary Claire lives in Macon with her parents Scott & Caroline Murphy. She has a sister, Amelia, a dance major at UGA and a brother, Brian, an eighth grader at Covenant Academy in Macon.
